CDP funds new sustainable public nursery school in Florence

A nursery school constructed entirely of wood, covering a total area of 2,600 square metres and featuring high standards of environmental sustainability and energy efficiency. The new facility – built with the support of the CDP Group and located next to the Manifattura Tabacchi complex in Florence – is due to be completed by summer 2024.

Manifattura Tabacchi Spa, a joint venture established by CDP Real Asset and Aermont Capital, plans to invest €5 million in the construction of the nursery school, as part of the project to redevelop the entire building complex, an area exceeding 100,000 square metres. The site, which has been disused for some time, holds significant emblematic value for the city. Thanks to the redevelopment work, it is gradually transforming into a community hub open to all, providing new opportunities through education, culture, housing, and contemporary craft.

The foundation stone of the new public nursery – which will have spaces for up to 100 children – was laid in the presence of the Mayor of Florence, Dario Nardella.
Attending on behalf of the CDP Group was Giancarlo Scotti, CEO of CDP Real Asset SGR and CDP Real Estate Director, who said: “The construction of the new nursery school, which will cater for children from the neighbourhood surrounding the Manifattura, reflects several aspects of the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti Group's mission. On one hand, CDP has consistently led the way in backing and funding educational projects and the learning of younger generations, laying the groundwork for a new society rooted in excellence. On the other hand, CDP Real Asset SGR advocates for the refurbishment of former public buildings with the goal of rejuvenating neighbourhoods, where long-abandoned structures are restored and returned to the community. And that is what the Manifattura represents: a hub open to all, where education, culture, homes and contemporary craft provide new opportunities for development.”
