Giovanni Gorno Tempini

Giovanni Gorno Tempini has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti S.p.A. since 24 October 2019 and Chairman of Fondazione CDP since November 2021.

Since August 2019, he has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of F.I.L.A. – Fabbrica Italiana Lapis ed Affini S.p.A. He is also a member of the Boards of Directors of TIM S.p.A., Società per Azioni Villa d’Este and Fontana Finanziaria S.p.A. Since December 2024, he has been a member of the Corporate Governance Committee established by the business associations ABI, ANIA, Assonime and Confindustria, together with Assogestioni and Borsa Italiana. He is also a member of the Scientific Committee of Fondazione Aristide Merloni, the Executive Committee of Assonime, the General Council of AIFI and the General Council of ISPI.

He is an Adjunct Professor of the course “Long-term Investments and Public-Private Partnerships” at Bocconi University in Milan and teaches on the MBA programme at SDA Bocconi School of Management. He has previously held teaching positions at LIUC University and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.

From 2010 to 2015, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti S.p.A. and, from 2014 to 2015, of CDP Reti S.p.A. He was also Chairman of Fondo Strategico Italiano, subsequently renamed CDP Equity S.p.A., from 2011 to 2015 and again from 2020 to 2025, as well as Chairman of CDP Reti S.p.A. from 2019 to 2026.

Throughout his career, he has held positions on the boards of directors of major companies and institutions, including Avio, Intesa Sanpaolo, Willis Towers Watson, Fondazione Fiera Milano and Luiss Guido Carli University. He has also served as Industry Advisor for Italy to the private equity firm Permira and as Senior Advisor to Partners S.p.A. In addition, he was General Manager and a member of the Board of Directors of the Mittel Group and a member of the Management Board of A2A S.p.A.

Between 2001 and 2007, he held several senior positions within the Intesa Sanpaolo Group, including Head of Investment Banking and Structured Finance, Chief Executive Officer of Banca Caboto and Head of Group Finance and Treasury.

Giovanni Gorno Tempini began his career at JP Morgan in 1987 in Global Markets, holding senior management positions in Milan and London with responsibility for Italy and the EMEA region.

He graduated in Economics and Business Administration from Bocconi University in Milan in 1987. He holds the honours of Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic and Knight of Labour (Cavaliere del Lavoro).
