Strengthening economic cooperation between Italy, Latin America and the Caribbean, mobilising private investment, and expanding financing opportunities across the region. These are the objectives of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) and the Inter-American Development Bank Group (IDB Group), the leading multilateral development bank in Latin America and the Caribbean. The agreement was signed on 13 October in Bangkok during the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group.

The MoU was signed by Carlo Rossotto, Director of International Institutional Relations and Development Cooperation at CDP, and Ilan Goldfajn, President of the IDB Group, in the presence of Manuela Nenna, Director General for International Financial Relations at the Treasury Department of Italy’s Ministry of Economy and Finance.

The agreement strengthens the collaboration between CDP and the IDB Group to support the development of new sustainable projects and attract greater private investment across Latin America and the Caribbean. The two institutions will explore the creation of a joint facility to support the origination and growth of high-impact initiatives, leveraging their expertise, financial resources and dedicated support instruments.

Priority areas of cooperation include critical minerals, energy security, sustainable transport and logistics, water resource management, resilient infrastructure, biodiversity and natural capital conservation, as well as agri-food value chains and food security.

The agreement also aims to foster the involvement of Italian companies in the region’s development programmes by connecting them with local projects and partners through BID for the Americas, the IDB initiative that promotes trade and investment opportunities between Latin America and the Caribbean and international partners.

The MoU builds on the existing collaboration between CDP and the IDB Group, particularly through IDB LAC Minerals, the regional platform dedicated to promoting responsible mining practices and the development of sustainable critical mineral value chains. More broadly, the agreement establishes a framework for enhanced cooperation aimed at strengthening economic and financial ties between Italy and Latin America and the Caribbean, while encouraging private sector participation in high-impact initiatives that support the region’s sustainable development.
