The Mattei Plan, launched in January 2024 with an initial overall allocation of €5.5 billion, is a national strategic initiative introduced by the Italian Government to foster a paradigm shift in relations with the African continent, building equal partnerships that generate mutual benefits and opportunities.
The Plan is implemented through projects developed jointly with partner countries and focuses on six key areas of intervention: education, training and culture; health; water; agriculture and fisheries; energy; and physical and digital infrastructure. Initially involving nine countries, the initiative has progressively expanded to a total of eighteen partner countries.
The Mattei Plan currently includes: Algeria, Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Mauritania, Mozambique, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Tunisia, and Zambia.
