Financial education, a lever to prevent economic vulnerability and over-indebtedness
The collaboration between CDP and the National Anti-Usury Council is gathering momentum with a series of meetings, including a stop in Milan. The aim is to strengthen the skills of professionals and volunteers working to support individuals and families.
Knowing how to manage money, understanding the risks associated with debt and knowing where to turn for help can make all the difference, particularly during periods of economic uncertainty. In Italy, according to the latest figures from Istat for 2025, more than 13 million people are at risk of poverty or social exclusion. The causes vary, but are often linked to job losses, declining incomes or unforeseen events. Such circumstances can lead people to take on unsustainable financial risks, highlighting the increasingly important role of financial education as a preventive tool.
This awareness underpins the collaboration between CDP and the National Anti-Usury Council, a network coordinating 35 foundations and associations working to combat usury and over-indebtedness. The joint initiative includes a series of events across Italy, beginning in Cagliari in June, followed by Milan in October, with further meetings planned nationwide.
A training programme for staff and volunteers at anti-usury support centres, aimed at strengthening their ability to identify people in need of assistance.
The programme, developed with the support of the Foundation for Financial and Savings Education (FEduF), is aimed at staff and volunteers from the organisations coordinated by the National Anti-Usury Council. Its objective is to strengthen their ability to provide guidance to people seeking assistance from support centres, creating an important multiplier effect that broadens the initiative’s impact and enhances their capacity to identify people in need.
A commitment to promoting financial education that CDP has pursued for years through initiatives targeting different groups, from young people to women and families particularly vulnerable to financial hardship.
The collaboration with the National Anti-Usury Council builds on a model based on cooperation between CDP, FEduF and the Third Sector, bringing together different areas of expertise to provide more effective solutions tailored to people's needs.
