Promoting care, rehabilitation and social reintegration for people with mental health issues is the goal of Amsonia, the consortium of Umbrian social cooperatives established in July 2022 in Perugia.
This mission is pursued through the management of a therapeutic community offering care services to around 30 psychiatric patients, hosted in a facility expanded thanks to €452,000 in funding. The resources were made available on favourable terms, together with the banking system, through the Revolving Fund for Enterprises (Fondo Rotativo Imprese - FRI) for the social economy managed by CDP. With a total allocation of €200 million, the instrument supports investment programmes of social, cultural and creative enterprises and cooperatives.
Amsonia’s users are involved in activities organised both within and outside the facility, such as mosaic workshops, managing a vegetable garden and broadcasting radio programmes. These are tools to help strengthen self-esteem and create pathways to independence, with a view to facilitating access to the working world.
The cooperatives (ASAD, Nuova Dimensione and Piccoli Passi) that make up the consortium also provide care and educational services to elderly people, individuals with physical disabilities, migrants and minors thanks to the work of over 1,000 members and employees including psychologists, healthcare workers, doctors and social workers.
