Recreational therapy for 2,000 young people in difficulty in Naples

Around 2,000 young people from Naples have taken part in “Recreational Therapy” initiatives over the past two years, co-developed by the Dynamo Camp Foundation and the CDP Foundation. These are innovative care programmes based on social-educational activities centred around shared experiences and fun, offered free of charge to minors facing hardship, including those with serious or chronic illnesses, neurodevelopmental disorders or disabilities. Made possible with the support of the City of Naples, the project aims to provide relief to entire families. Indeed, in addition to the programmes for children, support is also offered to parents to help them better manage day-to-day life.

The results and impact of this joint commitment were the focus of today’s event marking two years since the start of the partnership. The discussion brought together Chiara Marciani, Councillor for Youth and Employment Policies of the City of Naples, Serena Porcari, CEO of the Dynamo Camp ETS Foundation, and Francesca Sofia, General Manager of the CDP Foundation.

The event took place in the multifunctional spaces of the city’s youth centres, made available at no cost by the City of Naples to support the Dynamo Camp and CDP Foundation project. The programmes were initially hosted at the Casa della Socialità and are currently held at the Youth Centre, a venue able to accommodate more participants and strengthen the project’s roots within the local area.

Children take part in music, theatre, art labs, sensory activities, storytelling and hip hop, all designed to engage and entertain while gently challenging the participants, in keeping with the Recreational Therapy approach that underpins all Dynamo Camp activities, focusing on each person’s unique strengths and potential.

“We are grateful to the CDP Foundation for making it possible to offer free programmes for the benefit of children with serious illnesses and their families through its support and full alignment with the project’s goals”, said Maria Serena Porcari, CEO of the Dynamo Camp Foundation. “Thanks also to the City of Naples for supporting our work, identifying and providing a suitable venue in a location well positioned to welcome families. Our shared commitment continues, with the aim of establishing a permanent presence of Dynamo Camp in the area within the coming year.”
“Supporting the growth of young people – especially those facing challenges – is a responsibility we feel strongly at the CDP Foundation”, said Francesca Sofia, General Manager of the CDP Foundation. “That’s why we’re proud of the results achieved in the Campania region through our collaboration with the Dynamo Foundation, where we’ve been able to provide real support to many families and create training and job opportunities for skilled professionals. The synergy with the City of Naples has been crucial in anchoring the project in the local community and ensuring its long-term sustainability. We intend to replicate this model – built on strong alliances and action on the ground – in other parts of the country, with a focus on southern Italy.”
“Supporting initiatives like those promoted by the Dynamo Camp Foundation and the CDP Foundation means making a real investment in the well-being of our young people and their families”, said Chiara Marciani, Councillor for Youth and Employment Policies of the City of Naples. “As a local authority, we believed from the outset in the educational, social and human value of this project, and made public spaces available to help it grow and integrate into the city’s fabric. Seeing the results of this shared effort confirms that we are on the right path: Naples is – and always will be – a city that welcomes, listens and creates opportunities for everyone, especially those in difficult situations.”
