2X Global Summit: CDP coordinates a Joint Declaration to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment

At the Montréal summit, Development Finance Institutions and Multilateral Development Banks reaffirm their commitment to women's economic empowerment through a Joint Declaration drawn up under the coordination of CDP

On the occasion of the 2X Global Summit in Montreal, Canada, the leading Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) and Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs), coordinated by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP), presented a joint Declaration renewing their commitment to gender equality and women's economic empowerment.

The document reaffirms the role of Development Finance Institutions in promoting investments capable of generating a positive impact on women's economic inclusion and confirms support for the 2X Challenge, the international initiative that aims to increase gender equality-oriented investments. The commitment is part of the target promoted by the 2024 Italian G7 Presidency to mobilize at least 20 billion dollars between 2024 and 2027, in continuity with the over 34 billion already mobilized by 2023 and with a growing involvement of private capital.

In detail, the signatory institutions pledge to increasingly integrate a gender perspective into their investment strategies, including in crucial areas such as climate finance, supporting companies in their alignment with the 2X Challenge criteria. Furthermore, the Declaration promotes greater collaboration among the signatories through the sharing of knowledge, data, and experiences, with the goal of spreading best practices and maximizing the impact of initiatives supporting women's economic empowerment. Finally, particular attention is dedicated to promoting safer and more inclusive environments for women.

The Declaration was presented during the “2X Challenge Full Circle” session, which celebrated the journey of the 2X Challenge since its launch in Canada at the 2018 G7 Summit. The meeting offered an opportunity to highlight the achievements reached in recent years and to outline the upcoming challenges for development finance in fostering greater women's participation in the economy.

The initiative represents the result of an institutional coordination process promoted by CDP within the 2X community and confirms the institution's role in promoting shared solutions to support women's economic empowerment through dialogue with international partners and multilateral initiatives.
