20 November | World Children’s Day

20 November | World Children’s Day

To mark World Children’s Day on 20 November, CDP is renewing its commitment to younger people, aware that investing in children and adolescents means building a fairer, more sustainable future for Italy.

Between 2022 and 2024, CDP dedicated some 800 million euros in support of initiatives with a considerable social impact, such as redeveloping schools, renovating sports’ facilities and building day nurseries. Some examples include CDP funding the expansion of a school in Vipiteno (in the province of Bolzano), renovated with zero-environmental impact technologies; the redevelopment of the football grounds at Fasano (in the province of Brindisi), and the construction of a Forest School Nursery at Spirano (in the province of Bergamo) based on innovative teaching methods centred around contact with nature and nutrition.

Activities for younger people include promoting a financial culture. For example CDP has been involved in the ‘Il Risparmio che fa Scuola’ financial education programme, involving 228,000 students of all ages, and has worked with FEduF, the Italian Financial Education Foundation, in organising events and lessons on mindful money management as part of ‘Pronti, finanza, via!’, the financial education project launched in November 2023, with 8,500 students from Italian primary and secondary schools taking part, with a particular focus on suburban areas.

Fondazione CDP has also participated in initiatives for children, allocating over 10 million euros in the past three years to projects run by third sector organisations, to tackle school dropouts and education poverty, and consolidate cognitive skills and civic engagement. For example, the ‘Scuola libera tutti!(School frees everyone!) project, developed with the third sector organisation ‘Salesiani per il sociale’ brings together schools and the local fabric to encourage success in education and offers free, inclusive services, with a focus on after-school and free-time activities. The project involves 550 students aged between 12 and 18 from 14 schools at risk in 5 Italian cities, and was selected in the call for proposals ‘A scuola per il futuro’ (At school, for the future), which has allocated 4.2 million euros in three editions to 13 projects for young people throughout Italy.

With the corporate volunteer programme ‘Protagonisti d’impatto’ (Making an impact), the Group’s employees are involved with Save the Children in activities for study help and workshops on children's rights, the environment and a mindful use of the Internet.

World Children’s Day was set up on 20 November 1989 to mark the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. This Day reminds us of the importance of safeguarding the rights, wellbeing and opportunities for growth of children and adolescents, so that they may fully develop their potential in a safe, inclusive and stimulating environment.
