European firms and under 39 professional architects promoted to the second stage of the competition for the renewal of former Sani barracks

Bologna March 13, 2017

Five designs out of 84 submissions from nine European countries were selected for the second phase in the architectural competition to renew the former Sani military barracks in Bologna, Italy.  The redevelopment will create a multi-purpose space with green areas, and residential and commercial services spaces.

The international competition is characterized by the youthfulness of its participants: 22 plans were designed by architects 39 years of age or younger. Two were submitted from Brussels, one from Zurich, one from Milan and one from Bressanone, in northeast Italy’s German-speaking Arentino Alto Adige region.

Architects presented proposals ranging from landscaping to the architectural conversion. The contest launched by CDP Investimenti Sgr runs through the second selection phase, which will end July 30 with the identification of the winning project proposal.
