Urban Renewal: CDP’s New Bologna Barracks

Published notice for the competition to design the Sani property in Bologna, reclaiming the site for residences and business while integrating nature into the design

Bologna, 22 December 2016

A new site for urban renewal supported by CDP Group’s real estate arm, CDP Investimenti Sgr, will convert the former Sani military barracks in Bologna into homes and business spaces. CDP has published the notice for the competition to redesign the site once used for military food production, and later for storage.

With the competition, CDP intends to bring to light the value of this property complex declared historical and of artistic interest. In this first phase, the competition notice relates to the preparation of the master plan of the property, from which will derive a direction for the next planning step.

As happened for the previous reuse projects, the main purpose is to transform a neglected area into a multifunctional space with green areas, residential and commercial services space.

The goal of the competition, in fact, is to identify a project proposal outlining the new structure of the former Sani Barracks to start a development path in line with CDP standards. The competition will unfold in two phases: the first will end on February 24, with the delivery of the masterplan; the second on June 19, the deadline for submitting project proposals.

With the new Sani operation, CDP remains committed to the enhancement of Italian Real Estate, promoting the construction of new housing centers, capable of meeting the daily demands of respectful innovation and sustainability criteria.
