The new “EU Platform on Sustainable Finance” is launched: CDP's commitment to sustainability recognised with observer appointment

Gaia Ghirardi, CDP Head of Sustainability was recently appointed "Observer" on behalf of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti for the newly established Platform on Sustainable Finance of the Directorate-General for “Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union” (DG FISMA) of the European Commission.

CDP is the only National Promotional Institute to be represented on this prestigious body, which has 57 members and sees the involvement of important institutions such as the European Environment Agency, the European Investment Bank, the European Investment Fund, the three European supervisory authorities and the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, together with academics, the private sector and civil society organisations. This appointment is clear recognition by the European institutions of our commitment, as a key player in the financial system, to promote sustainable, inclusive and long-term development.

In its role as technical advisor, the platform will be entrusted with the crucial task of assisting the Commission in completing the so-called “EU Taxonomy”, a system at EU level identifying economic activities that can be classified as sustainable from an environmental point of view. In the future, the platform’s role will be to advise the Commission on significant legislative changes, such as a possible extension of the system to include social sustainability goals.
