The Energy Transition in Italy and the role of the electricity and gas sector

The study, carried out by CDP in collaboration with Terna and Snam, provides an overview of the dynamics underway in the international energy sector, identifying the main development trends and the challenges to be faced at a global level in moving towards the decarbonisation of consumption. The document also offers a detailed analysis of the development scenarios of the Italian energy market, identifying the guidelines for growth in the electricity and natural gas sectors, which are fundamental vectors for setting our country on a path of sustainable development.

Network investments, integration with European markets, increased system flexibility and the evolution of markets to allow the integration of new generation, innovation and digitalisation resources into the system, represent a set of essential, coordinated and coherent actions which are necessary to give substance to the process of making the energy transition to a low carbon economy.
