The CDP Forest is launched, for the environment and social inclusion

The initiative created in collaboration with Treedom has begun: 75 fruit and forest trees in Kenya and 25 pomegranates in Sicily, to combat climate change and safeguard the planet.

Rome June 7,2019

From today, special trees will be grown in Kenya and Sicily. They are the CDP Forest trees, launched on World Environment Day in collaboration with Treedom, the web platform that lets you to plant a tree remotely and follow its growth online. The project is part of CDP’s commitment to sustainability, the new paradigm which will be promoted in business operations and daily activities, as set out in the 2019-2021 Business Plan. In particular, this initiative will offset the C02 produced by paper and toner use at CDP in 2018: to achieve this goal, 74 fruit and forest trees will be planted in Kenya and 25 pomegranates in Sicily, which will be maintained by small farming cooperatives. The project will contribute to environmental impact and promote social inclusion and well-being.

The fruit from these trees will provide nourishment, training, work and income. Over 5000 farmers, including women, will be involved in Kenya, helping to support their emancipation; in Sicily, the main objective will be to stimulate employment and socialisation for young people with autism. It will be possible to follow the growth of the trees over time, as the local farmers will take photos and post them on web platform.

Like "Zero Plastica" project, this initiative undertaken in collaboration with Treedom, is one of the CDP Group’s projects for promoting respect for the environment, combating climate change and social inclusion. The objective is to make a concrete contribution to achieving the 17 UN SDGs and work daily towards sustainable development in Italy and the world
