Upgrading facilities with positive impacts on sustainability and energy efficiency. This is the objective of the 70 million euro loan granted by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti to Bracco Imaging, a Milan-based company active in diagnostic imaging. The resources will support the restructuring and expansion of the production plant of Spin (a company of the Bracco Group) in the municipality of Torviscosa, in the province of Udine.

More specifically, the investment will be used to increase production of Iomeprole, the active ingredient used in X-ray/CT contrast media, from 1,400 to 2,000 tonnes per year. There are also plans to restructure and upgrade several areas of the factory for new production departments and warehouses for storing raw materials and finished products. There will also be benefits on the sustainability front: a photovoltaic system with solar panels will be installed on some roofs of the factory buildings. The additional production lines, complete with new software, will meet the Industry 4.0 criteria already employed by the company, being digitally managed and interconnected with production, storage, industrial control, financial and accounting management systems.

Bracco Imaging, headquartered in Milan, is the main operating company of the Bracco Group, and is one of the world's most important companies in the field of diagnostic imaging. The company develops, manufactures and sells imaging agents and solutions, with a portfolio of products – especially contrast media – for all major diagnostic methods such as X-ray, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound and nuclear medicine. The product range is completed by medical devices and advanced contrast media injection systems.

"Supporting Italian companies in developing investments geared to meet the challenges of the ecological and digital transition is a strategic priority for Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. We are proud to be able to support an excellence in the chemical-pharmaceutical sector like Bracco Imaging as it expands in Italy and abroad", said Andrea Nuzzi, Head of Companies and Financial Institutions at Cassa Depositi e Prestiti.
"We are very pleased with the fruitful relationship with Cassa Depositi e Prestiti for supporting a strategic investment that will increase the production capacity of one of Bracco's most important industrial sites and adequately respond to growing market demand", added Roberto Desimini, Chief Financial Officer of the Bracco Group. "Furthermore, this initiative includes a strong focus on sustainability, which is fundamental to our company and its growth objectives”.
