New lecture halls and laboratories for students at the University of Turin

€63 million from CDP to renovate the university’s building stock

Making the premises more modern and high-tech, redefining spaces and creating new facilities for students are the objectives of the €63 million financing CDP has granted to the University of Turin, which will become €120 million with the resources of the Italian Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR).

With its ReInventing UniTo project, the university will invest in its building stock of more than 120 locations distributed across seven hubs in accordance with ESG principles. The more than 80,000 students and 4,000 lecturers and technical-administrative staff will be provided with new lecture halls and libraries, modernised laboratories and teaching spaces, and an upgraded botanical garden.

This is the first transaction that CDP has undertaken as part of the €1.4 billion programme promoted by the Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR) through the Fund for University Buildings and Large Scientific Equipment.

Other institutions have been financed since 2022, such as the University of Naples Parthenope (€25 million), the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera (€8.2 million), the University of Milan-Bicocca (€42.2 million), the University of Sannio (€3.5 million), the University Magna Græcia of Catanzaro (€4 million) and the Gran Sasso Science Institute (€3 million).

These are just a few examples of a commitment to the Italian academic world worth more than €500 million in total, or 10% of the new lending in 2022 for public entities. Support for universities is part of CDP’s new intervention model, acting as something more than a financial partner to administrations in all phases of a project’s life with an integrated offering of products and services.

The transaction with the University of Turin is in line with CDP’s 2022-2024 Strategic Plan, which aims to contribute to the development of the education infrastructure fundamental to the country’s growth.
