National Strategic Hub, the new public administration bodies cloud infrastructure

The National Strategic Hub (PSN), the new cloud infrastructure for public administration bodies, invested in by TIM, Leonardo, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (through its subsidiary CDP Equity) and Sogei, is taking shape. PSN, which has been operational from 21 December 2022, provides cloud based solutions and services to public administration bodies, ensuring efficiency, security and data reliability. The ultimate goal is to provide innovative services to public administration bodies, in line with the provisions of the NRRP and the latest regulatory measures on digital infrastructures.

The new infrastructure is one of the pillars of the Italy Cloud Strategy, the country's digital transformation project that aims to migrate Italian public administration bodies to cloud services in three stages: classification of data and services (strategic, critical, ordinary), identification of those transferable to the cloud and actual migration to the National Strategic Hub.

The Italian and European milestones of the NRRP require the first 30 administration bodies to be migrated by September 2023, then 100 by 2024 and 280 by June 2026.

 

Who can join the National Strategic Hub

All public administration bodies can migrate to the National Strategic Hub cloud: Central and local public administration bodies and health authorities are among those that can join the Convention by agreeing a User Contract.

There are numerous advantages that the PSN can offer to public administration bodies: innovation, security, complete control of data, as well as quality of services with a view to simplification and sustainability with savings in terms of energy and public spending.

 

Services available to public administration bodies

The PSN offers the following solutions:

  • Private Cloud services, on-demand and as a service solutions; a virtual infrastructure and application management platform that meets the diverse needs of the Italian administration bodies;
  • Cloud services with Cloud Service Provider, provided in public and hybrid mode; Housing & Hosting services, traditional infrastructure solutions for the use or rental of PSN servers;
  • professional services, additional solutions to support public administration bodies.

All services offered are based on technological autonomy and complete data security and are hosted in national data centres.

 

Efficiency, sustainability and security: PSN Data Centres

At the heart of the National Strategic Hub's activities are four Data Centres, two in Lombardy and two in Lazio, to ensure data backup, disaster recovery and business continuity in the event of a crisis.

The Data Centres are built to the highest industry standards and have the most important certifications to ensure the necessary energy efficiency and excellence in management and operations.
