Molteni Farmaceutici: excellence and innovation with CDP

Financed through Elite Basket Bonds, the Tuscan company invests in new markets and cutting-edge products.

It has 300 employees, a turnover of €79 million in 2018, customers in 50 countries, partnerships in the USA, offices in Florence and Milan, a sister company in Poland and a joint venture in Scotland. Molteni Farmaceutici was founded in 1892 and became part of the history of Italian pharmaceutics, dedicating itself to the treatment of pain. Today it is a competitive company in global markets because it has advanced technology, automatic processes and productions, and optimal finances and investments, with an increasing attention to sustainability.

The CDP Group has invested in this source of excellence from the Made in Italy brand – together with strategic partners such as the EIB – through the Elite Basket Bond, a financial instrument that allows the most dynamic companies to strive for successful products and markets, guaranteeing our country’s economic growth, employment rate and international leadership.

CDP holds 15% of the share capital of Elite, an international platform of Borsa Italiana that supports small and medium enterprises in their development projects, offering a dedicated training course, access to an international network of partners and qualified investors and diversified sources of finance.

After having obtained financial guarantees signed by Sace for €4.5 million (all repaid regularly), in 2017 Molteni received a loan of €10 million through Elite Basket Bond. It is now exploiting these resources through commercial expansion, but also by creating new products for medicine to combat pain and drug addiction.

The growth in economic results and the industrial quality achieved by the company, which has its headquarters in Scandicci, just outside Florence, therefore confirm the wise choice made by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti in supporting this source of pride for the Italian pharmaceutical industry.

With the 2019-2021 Business Plan, CDP is strengthening its commitment to Italian companies by providing concrete instruments such as the Fondo Rotativo Imprese (Revolving Fund for Companies), the CDP-EIB loans, the Fondo Innovazione e Sviluppo (Innovation and Development Fund), the Fondo Crescita Sostenibile (Sustainable Growth Fund) and the Fondo per le Agevolazioni alla Ricerca (Research Facilitation Fund).

Cassa Depositi e Prestiti supports the Italian production sector, investing its resources in the competitiveness of businesses and the growth of excellence in Italy.
