The internationalisation of Italian companies is one of the key drivers of the country's economy. The agri-food sector is one of our leading business segments in foreign markets, also thanks to strategic acquisitions that have strengthened the prestige and competitiveness of products Made in Italy.
Wine in particular is among the most popular products, with historic wineries that are renowned for their deep roots in certain regions, long histories and strong identities, like Marchesi Antinori.
It is one of the oldest wineries in Italy, founded in 1385 in Tuscany and active for 27 generations in the Chianti Classico area. Part of its consolidated turnover, which exceeds €350 million, is earned abroad through both exports and a direct presence in various parts of the world.
A success story confirmed by the acquisition in 2023 of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, a historic winery in California’s Napa Valley. Following its initial 15% stake, Antinori became the sole shareholder with the aim of strengthening its position in the United States, the main market for quality Italian wines, and internalising the distribution of its labels in North America.
The process of solidifying Marchesi Antinori's presence in the United States continued following the closing of the deal: in June 2024 the Tuscan company became the full owner of Col Solare, an 11-hectare winery in Washington State in which it previously had a 50% stake.
