Two new Financing Agreements to help improve Ethiopian healthcare structures and the flood forecast system in Vietnam

Rome, 13 June 2017

CDP has signed Financing Agreements for two new international cooperation projects promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to provide assistance in Ethiopia and Vietnam.

A € 5 million Financing Agreement has been signed with the Ethiopian Ministry of Finance and Economic Cooperation, to improve healthcare in the poorest and most remote regions of Ethiopia. The objectives of the project are to improve health services for over 3.7 million inhabitants in the Amhara and SNNP (Southern Nations, Nationalities and People) regions, increase healthcare protection coverage and reduce mortality through the establishment of a sustainable water supply system and waste water disposal in 61 health centres.

In addition, CDP and the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance have signed a € 4 million Financing Agreement for innovation in the river flooding forecasting system, and the management capacities of the alarm systems for the population of five provinces in the south-central region of the country (Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan). The Centre/South Regional Hydro-Meteorological Centre will be the direct beneficiary of the project and will be able to employ new equipment suitable for managing data, forecasts and alerts at provincial, regional and national level. The Centre will be tasked with managing all the results generated by the project to produce hydro-meteorological forecasts and basic surveys, thus reducing the vulnerability of the local population (around 5.4 million people) to flooding.

These two initiatives represent new building blocks in tackling world poverty, to support developing countries. Also in this way #wepromotethefuture
