Fincantieri seven new units for Qatar

The Italian shipbuilding group chosen by the Qatari Ministry of Defense. Ten thousand jobs for Italy

The commander of the Naval Forces of the Emirate of Qatar and Fincantieri CEO Giuseppe Bono, in the presence of Defence Ministers of their respective countries, signed a contract for the construction of seven units of a new generation of ships included in the naval acquisition program the Gulf country.

For Fincantieri (CDP Group), the contract is worth almost 4 billion euros and includes the supply of seven surface ships, four corvettes with lengths of over 100 meters, an amphibious ship, two patrol boats and support services in Qatar for more 15 years after the delivery of the units.

The units will be built entirely in the Group's Italian shipyards starting in  2018, ensuring work for more than six years and an important effect on the main companies of the Italian defense sector. At least 10,000 jobs are expected to be guaranteed by the agreement.

Fincantieri was able to win the contract beating out rival naval ship builders due its plan that was considered the most advanced and innovative .

The contract will allow the company to acquire a position of global leadership by operating in the military sector, in addition to the cruise and offshore construction sectors.
