Fincantieri Reaches New Heights in Technology, Innovation, Efficiency

From cruise to navy units the shipbuilder continues to promote Italian engineering in the world

Rome March 23, 2017

Fincantieri reaches new heights and realizes prestigious operations, reaffirming role as leader in the cruise and military sectors. Of particular importance, a ceremony yesterday at the Sestri Ponente shipyard  in Genoa marked the start of work for Fincantieri operations for Virgin Voyages, the Florida-based cruise line joint venture between Virgin Group and Bain Capital. The three ships are scheduled for delivery between 2020 and 2022 and will have a unique design that distinguish the Virgin Voyages brand in the world cruise sector.

In recent days, Fincantieri also celebrated other important milestones. At its Maghera shipyard in Venice the company launched Carnival Horizon, the ship destined for the Carnival Cruise Line, to be  delivered by spring 2018, joining Vista, Fincantieri’s biggest cruise ship to date. The two ships represent a technological and innovative reference point for the world shipbuilding industry. The Horizon, in fact, just like the twin Vista, will be characterized by high performance and comfort (from 3D movie theaters, to craft brewers). The ship will also be equipped with modern safety systems and advanced technologies, ensuring energy savings and environmental protection.

Energy efficiency is also the principle that guides work on  Nieuw Statendam, the cruise ship which Fincantieri will deliver next year to the Holland America Line. A keel laying ceremony for the ship was held this week.

Fincantieri’s work is not limited to the cruise sector. Its activities include the construction of naval vessels ships, such as Federico Martinengo, the ship launched at the Riva Trigoso plant. The Martinengo is the seventh of a series of ten units FREMM (European Multi-Mission Frigates), commissioned by the Italian Navy, as part of the international French-Italian cooperation. The ship will be characterized, like the others, by high use flexibility of use, enabling it to operate in all tactical situations.

Innovation, modernity, efficiency: these are the keywords of the projects carried out by Fincantieri. Through its achievements, the subsidiary of CDP Group spreads the Italian know-how in the engineering world, contributing to economic and social growth of the Italy.
