CEO Scannapieco at the opening of Tor Vergata academic year

Wednesday 20 November The Chief Executive Officer of CDP Dario Scannapieco attended the opening ceremony of the 2024-2025 academic year of University of Rome Tor Vergata where he gave a speech entitled “Interconnections and global challenges: the University’s strategic role” at the Ennio Morricone Auditorium.

The event opened with some welcoming remarks by Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, Minister for Institutional Reform and Regulatory Simplification, and these were followed by an introductory address from the University Rector, Nathan Levialdi Ghiron.

In his lecture on “The challenges and opportunities of the new global landscape: the role of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti in the public and private sector”, the CEO spoke about Europe’s role in the current economic and geopolitical climate.

“The Draghi Plan contains a warning to Europe about the danger of the long-term slowdown of economic growth,” Scannapieco reminded the audience. “In the current climate it is imperative to strengthen the EU, restoring the balance of its growth model and making more of the single market. In this way it can act as an agent of change rather than a passive observer. But this is only possible if we work together. Faced with the risk of economic fragmentation and the conflicts taking place in various places across the world, we need greater internal cohesion and unity. We have to turn these present and tangible threats into opportunities to make Europe more competitive.”

In this context, National Promotional Banks like CDP can play a crucial role, promoting long-term investments, supporting innovation and bridging gaps in the market, collaborating with the public and private sector to generate positive impacts in the economic, social and environmental spheres.

At the end of his speech, the CEO was presented with a certificate of merit and the University medal by the Rector.
