CDP to fund new residence for 650 students at Ca’ Foscari University in Venice

A social housing project made possible by CDP Investimenti (CDP Group) aims to provide students at Ca’ Foscari University, Venice with a brand new, energy-efficient accommodation facility with every modern comfort.

CDP is the manager of the Fondo Investimenti per l’Abitare, which together with the Fondo Aristotele (fully underwritten by INPS, the Italian Social Security Institution) will support the execution of the project.

To help towards the total cost of €35 million, the Ministry for Education will also contribute €4.5 million.

The new residence will offer students the opportunity to make the most of their university experience with affordable rates (from €230 per month).

At the same time, it will help towards the redevelopment of the Santa Marta area in Venice, transforming it into a university campus of over 18,000 square meters with services, green spaces, classrooms and libraries. To this end, the Ca’ Foscari buildings that housed the teaching and scientific research area will also be renovated (having been transferred for two years to the Science Campus in Mestre).

On completion of the work, the entire structure will be managed by the Pier Giorgio Falciola Foundation, which provides housing solutions for students, seniors, young couples and large families.

The Foundation has committed to allocate 15% of additional summer operating income (in excess of the amounts set out in the business plan presented to the university during the tender) to finance bursaries for deserving students.

The project is part of the activities of CDP Group to support the growth of the country, in its capacity as National Promotion Institution.
