CDP signs up to the UN Global Compact Manifesto for Social Sustainability

Cassa Depositi e Prestiti has signed up to the  "Enterprises for People and Society” Manifesto  promoted by the Global Compact Network Italy, the local network of the United Nations Global Compact, which CDP joined in 2022.

Spearheaded by the United Nations Secretary General, the Global Compact is the world's largest initiative dedicated to sustainable development and aims to promote responsible business practices to achieve UN goals and values. More than 20,000 companies are involved, with 3,000 non-profit organisations across 162 countries and 69 local networks.

The Manifesto, launched in June 2023 and consisting of 10 points, focuses on the promotion and dissemination of a sustainability culture, with particular emphasis on corporate social responsibility. The decision to sign up to this additional commitment underlines CDP's willingness to place social topics on an equal footing to environmental and governance factors in its approach to sustainability.

The signatories have committed themselves to ensuring adequate labour standards for their employees and requiring the same from their suppliers; to reducing social and gender inequalities in the community; and to supporting measures to boost the wellbeing of society as a whole through investments in training and building awareness, including in collaboration with other organisations.

The initiative has secured the participation of 23 players in the Italian business sector, united by the goal of increasing the importance of the social sphere in their corporate strategies. The aim is to create long-term value both for the companies themselves and for the communities in which they operate and the entire supply chain.

CDP's participation marks a significant step in its commitment to contribute towards a sustainable and inclusive future, in line with the goals of the UN’s 2030 Agenda.
