CDP Group to transform disused barracks in Pisa into social housing and an urban park

Work on the "Borgo di San Martino" project, a new social housing development in Pisa, will commence in autumn as part of the redevelopment of the Curtatone and Montanara Barracks, situated in the city's historic centre.

The project, valued at €20 million, will be overseen by the Fondo Housing Toscano (FHT), which is part owned by Fondo Investimenti per l'Abitare, in turn managed by CDP Real Asset SGR. Spanning a total of 6,800 square metres, the project will see the creation of 72 affordable housing units and stimulate new regeneration processes throughout the entire San Martino district of Pisa, particularly with the introduction of a new urban park covering over 2,000 square metres.

“Creating the broadest possible positive impact on the ground is ingrained in the DNA of the CDP Group,” says Giancarlo Scotti, CEO of CDP Real Asset and Real Estate Director of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. “Borgo San Martino will serve as a clear example of this. Through public-private collaboration, we will repurpose the building complex to create social housing infrastructure while simultaneously revitalising the neighbourhood through the creation of new green spaces for the community. Through the Fondo Investimenti per l'Abitare, a trailblazer in social housing in Italy, the CDP Group is committed to implementing social housing initiatives in the Tuscany Region with over 1,250 social housing units,” Scotti added.
