CDP Foundation and Save the Children: a Hackathon to imagine the school of the future

Students from Rome, Naples and Turin competed in podcasts with the help of CDP volunteers

The school of the future is the theme of three podcasts recorded by young students from Rome, Naples and Turin as part of You the Future. Launched in 2020, the project is a collaboration between the CDP Foundation and Save the Children, and aims to strengthen children's digital skills in order to combat educational poverty and early school leaving.

Gathered together in a real radio newsroom, the students produced podcasts on topics such as the future of education, innovation and the world of tomorrow.
The recordings took place on Friday 12 May 2023 at Hackathon You for the Future, the closing event of the second edition of the initiative. A jury made up of young people from SottoSopra - a movement for the protection of children's and adolescents' rights made up of young people aged between 14 and 25 - volunteers from CDP, the CDP Group Women's Association and the CDP Foundation, and a teacher from the schools involved, decided that the most creative podcast was the one produced by the Rome team, which imagined what school would be like in 2050, with school starting at 10:00, coffee with teachers and lots of sports activities, including yoga, swimming and table tennis.

The Turin and Naples podcasts were also highly original. In the first case, the students focused on subjects they would like to study such as social psychology, digital education, home education and first aid. Instead, the Neapolitan students imagined a school with large green spaces and adequate air conditioning, with no homework or oral exams, where sex education, nutrition education, criminology, astronomy, photography, music, painting are taught and where the minimum grade is raised from 2 to 4.

Cassa Depositi e Prestiti contributed to the project with the involvement of its own employees through Protagonisti d’impatto (Leaders of Impact), the Group's corporate volunteering programme, carried out in collaboration with leading third sector organisations to donate time and skills and promote the training of young people, help the most vulnerable, support scientific research and care for the environment.
