Rome January 14, 2019

Contributing to the development of sustainable technological solutions in maritime transport and Italian ports is the key goal of the cooperation agreement signed by CDP, Fincantieri, and Snam, signalling their commitment to identifying, developing and implementing medium-term strategic projects focused on innovation and energy efficiency, in line with the provisions set out under the Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC).

CDP Group will thus share its skills and expertise, with a view to making an active contribution to the development of the maritime industry, a strategic area for economic growth in Italy. The agreement, signed by the CEOs of CDP, Fincantieri, and Snam (Fabrizio Palermo, Giuseppe Bono, and Marco Alverà respectively), will enable the companies to contribute to four areas of activity:

  • ports and coastal areas, with projects focused on the construction of infrastructures for the procurement, transformation and use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and alternative energy sources in maritime transport;
  • new technologies and innovative energies, with a focus on the research, development and implementation of maritime transport systems based on new technologies (turbines for LNG modules, containment and management systems for methane in both liquid and gaseous states) and innovative new energy sources (LNG, hydrogen, fuel cells);
  • engineering, with an emphasis on sharing operational models and best practices between the relevant engineering and construction departments;
  • energy efficiency, with initiatives designed to increase efficiency of consumption, with particular reference to the naval and industrial sectors.

Fabrizio Palermo, CEO of CDP, said: “The agreement signed today is part of the path laid out in our new business plan towards a full collaboration between the Group companies to further the country’s growth. Under this CDP agreement, Fincantieri and Snam will share their knowledge and technical expertise to make a concrete contribution to the competitiveness of maritime transport, a key sector for both the Italian and wider European economies”
