Chairman Cassa Depositi e Prestiti
Giovanni Gorno Tempini became Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti S.p.A. since October 24, 2019, Chairman of CDP Reti S.p.A. since November 28, 2019, and President of the CDP Foundation since November 11, 2021.
Since August 2019, he is Chairman of the Board of Directors of F.I.L.A. - Fabbrica Italiana Lapis & Affini S.p.A. - and since 2017 he is a member of the Board of Directors of Avio S.p.A., both listed on the Star segment of the Italian Stock Exchange (Borsa Italiana). On April 28, 2023, he was appointed Vice Chairman of Avio S.p.A.
On March 31, 2021, he joined the Board of Directors of TIM S.p.A.
On May 15, 2025, he joined the Board of Directors of Società per Azioni Villa d’Este, and since May 22, 2025, he has been a member of the Board of Directors of Fontana Finanziaria S.p.A.
Since December 2024, he has been a member of the Corporate Governance Committee established by business associations (ABI, ANIA, Assonime, Confindustria), professional investors (Assogestioni), and Borsa Italiana.
He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Aristide Merloni Foundation, the Board of Assonime, the General Council of AIFI (Italian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association), the General Council of ISPI (Institute for International Political Studies), and the Supervisory Board of the Marguerite Fund (2020 European Fund for Energy, Climate Change and Infrastructure).
He is an adjunct Professor for the course "Long term investments and public private partnerships" at L. Bocconi University in Milan and teaches in the MBA Program at the SDA Bocconi School of Management. He was a lecturer at LIUC University in Castellanza (Varese) and at Ca’ Foscari University in Venice. He was a member of the Scientific Committee of the Ca’ Foscari International College and the Strategic Board of the Ca’ Foscari Foundation. He has been collaborating for many years, in various roles, with Intercultura and was appointed a member of the Advisory Board of H-FARM Education.
On April 2020, he was appointed a member of the Committee of Experts in Economic and Social Matters led by Vittorio Colao (DPCM on April 10, 2020) at the Prime Minister’s Office. The Committee, convened to draft the measures and initiatives necessary to face the COVID-19 epidemiological emergency, drafted the report "Initiatives for the relaunch of Italy 2020-2022".
Previously, he was Chairman of Fondazione Fiera Milano and a member of the Board of Directors of LUISS University (July 2016-July 2019). He was on the Boards of Intesa Sanpaolo S.p.A. and Willis Towers Watson S.p.A. (April 2016-November 2019), and also on the Boards of FIRC - AIRC, Italian Foundation and Association for Cancer Research (May 2016–April 2020). He was a member of the Board of Directors of Collegio San Carlo in Milan.
He held the role of Industry Advisor for Italy for the Permira Private Equity Fund and Senior Advisor for Partners S.p.A.
From May 2010 to July 2015, he held the position of Chief Executive Officer of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti S.p.A. and of CDP Reti S.p.A. (December 2014-July 2015). He was also Chairman of Fondo Strategico Italiano S.p.A., subsequently named CDP Equity S.p.A. (August 2011-July 2015 and April 2020-October 2025).
During his professional career, he was also General Manager and Board Member of the Mittel Group, Vice Chairman of Sorin S.p.A., Chairman of Hopa S.p.A., and member of the Management Board of A2A S.p.A.
Between 2001 and 2007, he held various roles within the Intesa Sanpaolo Group; specifically, from 2001 to 2005, as Head of Investment Banking and Structured Finance and as CEO of Banca Caboto (now Banca IMI), and from 2006 to 2007, as Head of Group Finance and Treasury.
Over the years, he has held the position of Chairman of the "Technical Commission for Finance" of the ABI (Italian Banking Association) and he was a Board Member of Borsa Italiana S.p.A., MTS-European Bond Exchange, EuroMTS, ISDA (International Swaps and Derivatives Association), and AIFI (Italian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association).
He began his career at JP Morgan in 1987 in the Global Markets sector, holding various executive positions in Milan and London, with responsibilities for Italy and EMEA.
Giovanni Gorno Tempini graduated in Economics and Business at Luigi Bocconi University in Milan in 1987.
On December 27, 2020, he was awarded the honor of Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic by the President of Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
On May 30, 2022, he was awarded the honor of Cavaliere del Lavoro (Knight of Labour) by the President of Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
On November 21, 2023, he received the Premio Parete, an award conferred upon those who conduct business while bearing witness to the value of knowledge, highlighting the centrality of education as a commitment to oneself and to Society.
