Osteria Social Club, a model for urban regeneration and social inclusion in Florence

Eighty-three apartments, on four floors covering an area of around 6,000 square metres, with parking spaces, communal areas for recreational activities and services such as launderettes and bicycle parking. From being illegally occupied, the complex in the Le Piagge area of Florence has become the ‘"Osteria Social Club", a home for families that can neither afford market rents, nor access public social housing initiatives.

The project, of a value of 10 million euro, developed with the support of CDP Real Asset and Fondazione CR Firenze, has made it possible to renovate the complex, which is located in an area with healthcare facilities, sports’ clubs, family support associations, a public park and that will soon have a tram stop.

Some of the apartments will be for third-sector organisations, in keeping with the project’s vocation: to be a place where an active community can be created, sharing cultural experiences and occasions for socialisation.

The Osteria Social Club is just one example of the CDP Group’s initiatives for social housing in Tuscany, which include 28 projects for 1,800 housing units, with 1,000 units already completed, and 500 places for university students. The CDP Group is committed to these activities together with local authorities and banking foundations.

And this initiative confirms its focus on housing that is inclusive, sustainable and involves people. A model that can be replicated, which puts people and local areas first, contributing to creating more cohesive, resilient social networks.
