CDP and the Ministry of the Environment and Protection of the Land and Sea (MATTM) present the first Italian investment platform dedicated to the fight against climate change
In line with Italy's commitments under the Paris Climate Agreement and the UN 2030 Agenda for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), CDP is developing a strategy to promote a new development model for environmental sustainability.
To this end, CDP and the Ministry for the Environment and Protection of the Land and Sea (MATTM) have signed a cooperation agreement to launch the "Climate and Sustainable Development Italian Platform" (CSDIP) aimed at financing projects and programmes dedicated to the environment in developing countries.
The CSDIP platform is the first Italian instrument entirely dedicated to projects in the environmental field. The purpose of the tool is to create synergies between the capital available at a national, EU and international level over a medium to long-term timescale. Under the agreement, MATTM and CDP will structure various financial instruments - such as loans, guarantees for risk coverage, capital investments and non-repayable investments - to support projects against climate change in developing countries. The recipients of this assistance will be, for example, local companies active in projects to mitigate climate change or to adapt to it, with a particular preference for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.
The initiatives will be implemented by adapting them to the specific needs and characteristics of the countries receiving the assistance, with the aim of creating synergies between national and international entities.
