Cassa Depositi e Prestiti achieves a ‘AAA’(p) ESG rating from MSCI

Assessed for the first time by MSCI, CDP ranks at the highest level on the agency's ESG rating scale

The Institution ranks above the average of its reference sector across all three pillars: Environment, Social and Governance

Rome, 22 June 2026 – Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) further strengthens its leadership position in sustainability by obtaining a MSCI Provisional ESG Rating of ‘AAA(p), the highest rating on the agency’s scale. This is the first ESG assessment assigned to CDP by MSCI, one of the leading ESG rating providers worldwide, whose coverage extends to more than 10,000 issuers and nearly one million financial instruments.

MSCI’s ESG Rating, which ranges from ‘AAA’ (Leader) to ‘CCC’ (Laggard), reflects CDP’s ability to manage ESG risks and opportunities relative to its industry peers in the Supranationals & Development Banks sector.

Fabio Massoli, Administration, Finance, Control and Sustainability Director at CDP, commented: “We are proud of the recognition we have received from MSCI. It sends an important signal to our investors and all other stakeholders, for whom trusted, independent, and market-recognized ESG ratings are becoming an increasingly relevant factor in their decision-making processes. Sustainability is a core strategic driver of our business model and guides our commitment to creating long-term value. Through our 2025-2027 Strategic Plan and current ESG Plan, we have further strengthened the integration of environmental, social, and governance factors into our financing activities and operating model. This achievement confirms the progress we have made and encourages us to continue pursuing this path with determination”.

The rating assigned to CDP reflects an underlying score of 7.5, placing the Group among the top-performing institutions in the “Supranationals & Development Banks” sector, well above the industry average of 5.9. This result is supported by the scores achieved by CDP across all three ESG pillars (Environment, Social, Governance), each of which exceeds the average of its peers.

Particularly noteworthy is CDP’s performance in the Environmental pillar, where it achieved a score of 8.0 compared to the sector average of 3.8. This strong result is supported, among other factors, by a robust ESG risk management framework for financing activities, based on clear criteria for triggering escalation processes.

In the Social pillar, the results particularly reflect CDP’s strong commitment to access to finance, driven by the development of solutions for SMEs and more vulnerable customer segments, as well as by programs dedicated to financial education.

Finally, in the Governance pillar, CDP stands out, among other aspects, for its strong performance in tax transparency, which places the Company in the 100th percentile globally, confirming its Best-in-Class positioning.

MSCI’s assessment is part of a broader track record of recognition received by CDP from leading ESG rating agencies, confirming the increasing integration of sustainability into the Group’s strategy and operations, in line with CDP’s institutional mission and its commitment to supporting sustainable development of Italy.
